META-MEETING MEMOCS 2027
Methods in Metamaterials design: mathematical modelling, numerical techniques, experiments
5-9 April 2027 – Arpino, Italy
This series of advanced workshops are intended to collect a selected group of scientists who are dedicating their efforts to the design of novel metamaterials or are developing methods useful to this aim.
Scientific Purpose
Metamaterial design is a novel branch of Mechanics, which show that this discipline is still capable of providing innovation and
advances in fundamental science and technology.
Albeit Mechanics has been the first mathematised theory in history of science, having its roots in the fundamental work of the Hellenistic school
started by, among the others, Archytas of Tarentum, Archimedes and Hipparchus, many have believed that it had exhausted its “propulsive push”
in contributing to the progress of exact sciences.
Instead, the need of designing “exotic” materials whose properties are chosen “a priori” by the designer, tayloring them for specific purposes, has proven that
Theoretical Mechanics can still push ahead the boundaries of knowledge.
As theory is indissolubly connected with experiments, and as no prediction is possible without the conjoint use of analytical and numerical methods
in the forum which MEMOCS intends to establish the necessary attention will be paid to the development of 3D printing techniques, which make possible the construction of the
most complicated micro-architectures for metamaterials, to the experimental techniques needed to support an verify theoretical models, including the most modern DIC and DVC methods,
and to the most advanced numerical methods, which include the more modern “non-local” and non-linear integration schemes.
