Sperlonga is a very picturesque small seaside town in Italy, south of Rome on the Tyrrhenian coast. Its white-painted houses make it a bit reminiscent of some Greek islands.

It is easily accessible by private and public transportation means.

The School will take place inside the fascinating monument of Santa Maria, the most ancient church of Sperlonga (early 12th century), located at Via Porta Piccola della Chiesa in the very heart of the old town.

Please note that private cars are not allowed into the city centre at any time.

Getting there

By car

From Rome, take the via Appia (SS 7) or the via Pontina (SS 148) and drive past Terracina, then follow the via Flacca (SS 213) up to Sperlonga. Alternatively, stay on via Appia (SS 7) beyond Terracina and take the minor road from Itri to Sperlonga. From Naples, drive to Formia and Gaeta, then take the via Flacca (SS 213) to Sperlonga

Alternative route, through A1 controlled-access highway:

Southbound: leave the highway at the Frosinone exit and follow signs to Latina, then Terracina and Sperlonga.
Northbound: leave the highway at the Cassino exit and follow signs to Formia, Gaeta and Sperlonga.

By train

The Fondi-Sperlonga station is on one of the two major railway lines connecting Rome with Naples (Roma-Napoli via Formia). It may be helpful to know that the nearest adjacent stations are Monte San Biagio to the north and Formia to the south. The city of Sperlonga, about 12 km away from the Fondi-Sperlonga railway station, may be reached either by bus or taxi. A taxi ride costs about 20 euros. Buses leave right after the train arrives and reach Sperlonga in about 20 minutes. The 1 euro fee is paid to the driver. Please be aware that the bus schedule is reduced on Sundays.
