Invitation-only Conference on
MODELLING COMPLEXITY IN MECHANICS 2027

Homogenization and coarse-graining methods in the modeling of nonlocal inelasticity and generalized elasticity

25-30 April 2027, Alghero, Sardinia, Italy

Organized by
Department of Architecture, design and urban planning, University of Sassari
in collaboration with
International Research Center on Mathematics and Mechanics of Complex Systems of University of L’Aquila M&MoCS

Scientific Purpose
The workshop will explore mathematical and computational approaches for deriving effective macroscopic descriptions of complex materials and mechanical systems from their underlying heterogeneous or microscopic structure. Topics will include homogenization techniques, including effective descriptions of inelastic and dissipative phenomena, generalized continua, wave phenomena, and mechanics of metamaterials. The workshop aims to foster discussion across applied mathematics, mechanics, and materials science, highlighting recent theoretical developments as well as computational strategies. The event will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss open problems, and identify new directions for the development of multiscale theories of complex materials.

Some details about the Workshop…
– Flexible program
– Possibilities of publication of the acts
– Dinners and activities organized to encourage exchanges between participants
– The conference will see the participation of about 30/40 speakers (all invited) with a standard slot of 30 min per presentation.
