The
Fondazione Tullio Levi-Civita (Cisterna di Latina)
the
International Research Center for Mathematics & Mechanics of Complex Systems (M&MoCS)
and the
Italian Association of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (AIMETA),
together with the town of Sperlonga, organize the
First Sperlonga Summer School on Mechanics and Engineering Sciences
Sperlonga (Italy), 26-30 September 2011
“Atomistic and continuum descriptions of microstructures”
coordinated by Gianpietro Del Piero (Università di Ferrara, Italy) and Errico Presutti (Università di Roma Tor Vergata, Italy).
The School will take place inside the fascinating monument of Santa Maria, the most ancient church of Sperlonga (early 12th century).
The two following courses will be held:
G. Del Piero – A variational approach to fracture and other inelastic phenomena
E. Presutti – Macroscopic limits in Statistical Mechanics
In addition to the regular lectures, the following topical seminars will be held:
Jean-Jacques Marigo (Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris)
1. Construction of fatigue laws from cohesive force models: the 2D case
2. Dynamical effects in the propagation of cracks due to a toughness
At the end of the First Sperlonga Summer School 2011, a Symposium in honour of Gianpietro Del Piero, in occasion of his retirement, will take place at the same location of the School, on September 30th and October 1st 2011.
