Garden of Ninfa

On behalf of the International Research Centre for the Mathematics & Mechanics of Complex Systems (M&MoCS),  it is our great pleasure to invite you to the EUROMECH-Colloquium 563 in Cisterna di Latina, Italy.

The Euromech Colloqium is intended to provide a forum for experts in generalised continua and design of metamaterials and composite materials to exchange ideas and get informed about the latest research trends in the domain. In particular the scientific scope of the colloquium will be centered on the problem of effective design of composites and mechanical metamaterials which can be conceived as a suitable assembly of multiple individual elements constructed with already available microscopic materials, but usually arranged in (quasi-)periodic substructures. Indeed the overall properties of metamaterials or composites do not depend only on those of their component materials, but also on their exactly-designed and precisely-built structures. For instance, metamaterials achieve the desired effects by incorporating micro-structural elements organized into patterns characterized by different length scales. This may be done by using suitably sub-wavelength sizes, i.e. structural scales that are actually smaller than the wavelength of the waves they are designed to affect. Composite materials, on the other hand, are constituted by different substructures which are mechanically connected, each of which must supply a precisely designed property of the overall material.

We look forward to welcoming you at the EUROMECH-Colloquium 563
